Facebook News Feed Update
It was announced today that Facebook will be changing its News Feed, prioritising posts from friends and family over business and advertising.
The move was announced by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in response to complaints that users were missing important updates from their loved ones as marketing posts took the most prominent positions.
Zuckerberg spoke about the upcoming changes, saying “We’ve gotten feedback from our community that public content – posts from businesses, brands and media – is crowding out the personal moments that lead us to connect more with each other.”
He went on to say that while this change may mean that users spend less time on the social media platform, the time they do spend will be of a higher quality and more valuable.
So, how will this affect your business posts on Facebook?
Information about the changes is still coming through, but from what we can tell, marketing posts will have to be seen as encouraging community interaction in order to promoted.
If your content is deemed to be too sales-focused or not seen to be offering anything valuable other than a promotion of your products, it is likely to be pushed further down the feed.
Chances are, we will start to see a lot less news and posts from organisations across news feeds, which means less exposure for businesses looking to connect with their audiences.
What can you do as a business?
The key here is to make sure anything you post on Facebook is aimed towards engagement and interaction.
Static images promoting products or special offers are likely to be viewed as heavily marketed and therefore be pushed down the priority list.
Videos, live streams and images that are engaging, personable and tell a story, rather than sell a product, are more likely get through to your target audience.
