Magento Version 1.8 has just been released (yesterday – 25th Sept 2013) and its looking like a cracker! Magento’s blog states improved functional, performance and security enhancements; as well as better Tax calculations. We look forward to getting our hands on it and giving it a run for its money (or not, as its FREE)
How weird is that, for the last few months I have been looking at re-doing our base install of Magento. And just as I get round to doing it, Magento releases an updated version! WINNER!
Every few months, I like to download a fresh copy of Magento/WordPress and completely strip it down, remove what we don’t like/use and rebuild it up with our favourite plugins and techniques (Responsive web design, cool jQuery plugins etc…). So today, one of my goals was to get a Fresh copy of Magento and perform this task, only to find that they have ‘Finally’ upgraded Magento.
After downloading my copy, I searched profusely to find out whats changed! What have the super dev’s at Magento been conjuring up. According to their latest blog post (maybe not newest when you read this) these are a few of the updates made:
- Around 350 functional updates that boost product quality. These include the web store, admin order creation, shopping cart as well as import/export functionality
- Performance Improvements – Faster page loading, improved caching adapters for single server environments
- Enhanced security
- Enhanced Tax Calsulations
